Image SEO: Alt Text, Formats, and Compression Done Right

The rules, boiled down:

  1. Content images must have alt; purely decorative images (dividers, background patterns) get an empty alt="" (so screen readers skip them — that’s not the same as omitting the attribute).
  2. Keep it to one sentence (roughly 5–15 words), not a paragraph.
  3. Don’t open with “an image of…” — the alt attribute already means it’s an image.
